March 24, 2010 E.C was an event that emerged with new meaning and a firm covenant in the context of 21st-century Ethiopian history, casting a new horizon of hope for our country and its people. This day stands recorded as a great generational pact made to extricate Ethiopia from the complex social, political, and economic quagmire that had entangled it, and to transition it toward a bright future.
Throughout the eight years of change from Megabit 2010 to Megabit 2018 EC [2018 to 2026], the victories achieved by our nation, the harsh trials crossed, and the concrete realities built saved Ethiopia from the threat of collapse it faced and elevated it to a higher chapter of prominence. Refined through the furnace of trial and forged in resilience, this journey of resurrection is a historical footprint that has once again demonstrated Ethiopia's invincible identity to the international community.
The core of our political sphere today is drawn from this historical light of March 24 [April 2]. A system has materialized that gracefully accepts differences of opinion, fortifies multinational unity by dismantling center-periphery political contradictions, and instills shared national values by defusing divisive and single narratives. It was during this period that the foundation was laid for a political ecosystem that prioritizes national interest and security, follows citizen-centric diplomacy, and accords primary focus to neighboring countries. Ever since the dawn of the reform, inclusive national dialogue is being conducted extensively to ensure the lasting durability of the political realm, alongside ongoing efforts to establish transitional justice.
The member regions and city administrations of the federation are practicing their right to self-governance in action, while political parties present themselves for competition freely and in accordance with the law. Through the mature steps taken to establish an inclusive political system, the government is sharing power with competing parties at all levels—starting from the cabinet—providing them the opportunity to lead the country together. This clearly demonstrates that Ethiopians, through the good news of the reform, have transitioned from the politics of mutual destruction to the practice of collaborative democracy.
March 24 was also when Ethiopia’s economic fractures were healed and a new chapter of growth commenced. Bent under the weight of various commercial loans, its developmental potential suppressed by a singular economic policy, and standing on the eve of national humiliation due to limited state execution capacity, our country was in peril. By breaking through these dangerous bottlenecks, the reform government succeeded in turning Ethiopia into a new horizon of hope. It rescued the economy from collapse by refraining from taking on new commercial loans and extending existing ones into longer repayment periods through arduous negotiations. Through home-grown economic reforms implemented at every level, focus shifted from agriculture-led to a multi-sector economy, enabling the superior utilization of the country's resources. Mega-projects like the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam overcame structural and performance hurdles to reach commissioning in a world-astonishing miracle. By completing numerous mega-projects alongside the Renaissance Dam, Ethiopia demonstrated to the world its entry into a new economic orbit. This combined the country's historical torch of freedom with economic supremacy, elevating its voice on the global diplomatic stage. Today, Ethiopia is no longer a country visited by only a few leaders, but a powerful nation hosting leaders of major countries every week, whose diplomacy has evolved from defensive to agenda-setting.
Similarly, March 24 serves as the point of rebirth for Ethiopia's cities. The reform government worked diligently to transition cities toward modernity, making them sources of clean, efficient service provision and integrated infrastructure. Through corridor development, cities have assumed a new face, laying deep foundations to shape a generation that lives in modernity and is built on digital technology. Beyond this, social interaction has been strengthened more than ever, turning diversity into the country's ornament and unity into its capacity. The culture of facing man-made and natural challenges together shone brightly in recent years, as evidenced by the nationwide support extended to citizens affected by drought and landslides. A historical chapter was recorded where the entire populace stood as one in response to traitors who allied with foreign forces to create conflict and obstruct Ethiopia's journey of prosperity, while the heroic leader marched to the battlefield for the country's honor, just like our ancestors.
Overall, Ethiopia has achieved remarkable success in recent years in asserting its political, economic, energy, and food sovereignty. Having served as a global model in renewable energy development, its early transition to renewable-energy vehicles helped it withstand the current fuel crisis to a certain extent. Even though internal and external challenges attempt to slow its pace, Ethiopia remains on a reliable policy path. With growing diplomatic influence, a strengthening economy, and the resilience of its heroic children, our country will continue to be a new horizon of hope. Today, having moved from expanding and consolidating the foundation of change to elevating it, Ethiopia will practically proclaim its role as an African model of prosperity in the coming few years. There is no doubt that all Ethiopians who made this transformation a reality will bring the initiated journey of prosperity to a victorious conclusion.
